Beverley Minster 'Destinations' project structural engineer
BeverleyFreelanceApplication deadline: 15/05/2026, 17:00Deadline this week
Beverley Minster (external link) (opens in new tab) has been awarded a Development Phase grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund for its ‘Destinations’ project.
A Structural Engineer is required to undertake this role in connection with the replacement of lead to the high roof of the Retroquire, Quire and Lesser North Transept; the Lesser North Transept Aisle roof; glazing conservation to the Great East Window and all associated timber and stonework repairs at Beverley Minster, to be undertaken over the next four years, and costing approximately £3.4m.
Beverley Minster is part of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion. Cathedral-sized and the largest parish church in England, it is the civic church of the East Riding of Yorkshire and a venue for major civic services, concerts, exhibitions, festivals and other special events.
The Minster is one of the finest Gothic structures in Europe, built mainly between the 13th and 15th centuries. The origins of the Minster date back nearly 1,300 years to St John of Beverley, whose shrine made Beverley a major centre of pilgrimage from the 8th century onwards. The theme of pilgrimage, and its contemporary relevance, lies at the heart of the Minster’s current ‘Destinations’ project, which builds on the success of ‘Beverley Minster – a place of sanctuary since 937AD’ (completed in 2021).
